On-line tool offers tailored advice on employment law
Thanks to a new initiative from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) managers of small to medium sized businesses can now get instant on-line advice on how to cope with their employment law obligations by simply completing a quick, five question ‘quiz’ entitled ‘Which boss are you?”
The quiz was compiled following a BSI study into how SME bosses manage their obligations in this respect. Not surprisingly the research found that while some managers are confident and tackle issues head-on, others admit to putting off their obligations and worry about how this might affect their business.
The research identified four types of behaviour in relation to employment law and the quiz, which is both quick and confidential, allows users to discover which type applies to them.
The choices are as follows:
Starting Out – 33 per cent of those surveyed were broadly unaware of the obligations they have as an employer.
Focused on Business – 19 per cent of those surveyed were aware that they have obligations but feel they are not confident in dealing with them, or have other seemingly more pressing priorities to tackle first.
The Delegator – 13 per cent of those surveyed understood their obligations but felt it was someone else’s role to ensure they were put in place.
